Gettin' Wiggy

Wigs were huge in the past & are becoming a big part of the future. I think wigs should become commonplace again in most women's wardrobes. During an era when we're trained to bore easily & compare ourselves to perfected strangers the wig is a way to transform instantly into a different 'type' of women, a visual character you invent. Each wig expresses the pliability of our identity.

Natural or theatrical, the way you look sends a message and the less you resemble the message you want to send the less you will feel like yourself - comfortable with the way you look. We all have a constantly changing ideal in our minds of how we want to look or what look appeals to us at different times in our lives. The length or type of hair we possess as our ideal keeps changing can hold us back, make us unable to look how we want to right now. Wigs give you the freedom to feel good, be wild, be feminine, be sleek, be trashy.

I think every woman should have a small collection of wigs - that wigs should become as common as lipstick for the everyday woman.

French wigs, 1770s

Ancient Egyptian wigs from 16th-11th century BC. Made of human hair & resin, & dyed with vegetable dyes, royal Egyptians of the period preferred to shave off their hair and wear elaborate wigs on their scalps because this prevented head lice and kept their heads cooler in the hot sun.
